e-commerce home page elements to increase sales

Appearances can be everything online. When a potential customer visits your e-commerce site, the home page needs to give a great first impression; it can set the stage for the entire encounter.

Deciding on which design elements and page features are best can be daunting. To help you along this journey, here are some top home page features you should implement to better facilitate conversions.

An Uncomplicated Navigation Bar

Ideally situated next to your site’s logo at the top of the page, a navigation bar is a key aspect of a home page. Its function is to support the visitor’s exploration of what the site has to offer. Not only does the navigation bar need to be clear and easy to use, but it should be keyword optimized as well. Be sure to include a range of intuitive product categories, well-defined subsections and a search box when upgrading the main menu along the navigation bar.

New and Most Popular Products

Generally located in the center of the home page, there should be a dedicated area to show off the best-selling or newest products. Having a segment of the page enhanced by powerful images and teaser text can guide users directly to the product page or the latest collection instantly. When there is no time for distraction or for interest to wane, there is more potential for conversion.

Clear Methods for Reaching Out

Whether you plan to include a “Contact Us” button or a link to social channels, there needs to be a section with contact information. Mentioning this information on the home page itself is another best practice. Provide footer links or the information directly along the bottom of the page — a customer won’t want to spend time searching for it.

Sign Up, Subscribe and/or Login

Last but certainly not least, there should be a method of subscribing, creating an account or joining a newsletter. Anything that confirms users’ permission to add them to an email marketing campaign or other methods of continuing communication.
